The Mississippi River offers water recreation such as fishing and canoeing. Crow Wing State Park and Camp Ripley Miliary Reservation occupy much of this section of the river. Kiwanis Park, Brainerd, has a fishing pier on the Mississippi. Navagation is possible north or south on the river. Sand dunes are found along the river south and west of Brainerd. Rice Lake is an impoundment created by Potlach Dam.
